PUBLIC HEALTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

NATIONAL
Public Health Leadership Society
(PHLS)—Alumni
Association of the Institutes
The Public Health Leadership Society (PHLS) is a national network of public health leaders in the United States who have had a common leadership training experience. Individuals are eligible for membership if they have graduated from a public health leadership development program, which includes, but not limited, to the National Public Health Leadership Institute, a State/Regional Public Health Leadership Institute, or The Robert Wood Johnson State Health Leadership Initiative. PHLS was created in 1993 by graduates of the National Public Health Leadership Institute in direct response to their expectation for continuing leadership education and peer consultation. Since that time, PHLS has become a national resource for consultation on public health leadership issues, for the development of public health policy, and the development of the next generation of public health leaders. Because its membership is comprised of local, state, and federal public health leaders, as well as leaders from academia and the private sector, PHLS is uniquely situated to influence health policy at all levels to advance the causes of public health.
CDC helps fund the Society and collaborates in its design and operation with the PHLS Council & partners, comprised of representatives from the National Public Health Leadership Institutes (PHLI), the National Public Health Leadership Development Network (NLN), the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), and the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI).
