Arkansas
Public Health Institute
The goals of the Arkansas Public Health
Institute (APHI) are to develop and broaden public health practitioner
leadership
skills, promote teamwork and business planning, and improve skills in program
planning and evaluation, communication
and data interpretation and analysis. Scholars attend 3 one-week sessions
and a final 2 1/2-day session covering public health topics such as epidemiology,
health behavior, environmental health, leadership and management, data
use, survey design, communication and cultural diversity. Individual leadership
skills are strengthened through scholar participation on multidisciplinary
teams for research, and development and presentation of a business plan
at graduation. This internal workforce development initiative is a collaborative
effort between the Arkansas Department of Health and the University of
Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health.
