Emerging Leaders Network
Minnesota’s Emerging Leaders’ Network
(ELN) was created to build a network of
emerging public health leaders skilled in
collaboration who are prepared to step into
both formal and informal leadership roles.
The project was piloted in 2002-2004 and
partially funded by the Robert Wood Johnson
Turning Point Program, National
Turning Point Leadership Collaborative
(www.turningpointprogram.org). The
Emerging Leaders’ Network is supported
by four partner organizations: the Local
Public Health Association of Minnesota;
the Minnesota Department of Health; the
Minnesota Public Health Association; and
the University of Minnesota, School of
Public Health.
The ELN expands access to leadership
training for emerging leaders–people with
the potential and desire for leadership, but
who may not yet hold leadership positions,
or if they do, their aspirations are
for different public health positions in the
future. The goals of the ELN are to: (1)
increase the diversity among Minnesota’s
public health leaders; (2) build leadership
networks across public, private and nonprofit
sectors that advance the public's
health; and (3) enhance skills and build
confidence of potential public health leaders
in collaborative leadership. The primary
focus of the ELN is on collaborative
leadership and building skills and networks
that enhance the ability of emerging
leaders to work collaboratively and to
lead others in working collaboratively in
the field of public health.
