The Collection: Tabletop Exercises for Public Health Preparedness:
This reference CD-ROM contains approximately 45-50 tabletop exercises. The CD-ROM is organized by 5 categories of tabletop exercises, multiple agent, biological agents, chemical agents, explosives and natural disasters.  This program can be used to review your agency’s response plan, to exercise key stakeholder and responder roles in emergency events or to improve emergency response to a variety of crisis events. In addition, a 6th section contains important emergency preparedness references and resources, such as links to the CDC, CPHPs and ODP.

Emerging Infectious Diseases: A General, Clinical and Public Health Resource Compendium:
These reference binders were created to aid public health agencies, emergency responders, and the medical workforce to effectively respond to emerging infectious disease situations and public health emergencies. They are intended to act as quick reference tools in crisis situations, especially when electronic, telephone or Internet communication is not possible. They are also available in CD-ROM format. P3: Plan, Prepare, Protect: A Community Preparedness Tool:
This reference guide provides a disaster preparedness tool to families in the community as a readiness resource in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. A collection of disaster definitions, key information for emergency prep kits, and space to record important personal information, as well as tips to protect the larger community and environment, make this an invaluable tool to prepare the community at large. Learning with Lilly: Introduction to Public Health Nursing:
This CD-ROM is an interactive course and resource tool for Public Health Nurses designed especially for those nurses who are new to Public Health.  Emphasis is placed on the Principles of Population Based Public Health Nursing and the integrative systems of the local, state, and national health departments.

Learning with Lilly: Principles of Public Health Nursing
This course focuses on population-based concepts and application to practice for nurses currently working in public health agencies who do not have a baccalaureate degree.  The course is taught on-line by a qualified instructor and is offered for both continuing education and college credit.  The target audience for this course is registered nurses currently working in local public health agencies or schools who want to learn about population based public health nursing. The Basics of Incident Management Systems in the Greater St. Louis Area:
This CD-ROM program was designed to introduce the basic concepts of national incident management systems (NIMS) for Fire and EMS personnel in the St. Louis metropolitan area.  It is intended to serve as both an educational tool and a source for reference material.

FQHCs: Introduction to Federally Qualified Health Centers:
This CD-ROM based course provides an introduction for medical students considering a rotation at a Federally Qualified Health Center. Objectives of this course are to familiarize students with the history of FQHC's. Students will also have a chance to see firsthand the diversity of the various FQHC locations. They will get an idea of the kinds of opportunities they may have on a daily basis, the work schedule, the FQHC clientele, and why others have chosen to practice at FQHC's.

Risk Communication:Effectively Communicating with the Media During a Public Health Crisis:
This is a four-part CD-ROM program that provides an overview of the basic theories of risk communication, discusses the principles of communication for interaction with the media, explains the development of effective risk communication messages, and demonstrates effective media message delivery. 

Epi for Everyone:
This 5-part interactive CD-ROM program introduces the basic concepts of Epidemiology including surveillance and analysis. Personalized certificates of completion are awarded for each module after an individual assessment. 

Evidence-Based Public Health:
This course, updated in April 2006, is a workshop designed to increase understanding of evidence-based principles among participants and to increase the utilization of systematic approaches in day-to-day public health practice.  The course consists of 3 CD’s containing workshop presentations and includes lectures, practice exercises and case studies. 

NIMS: An Introduction for Public Health:
This distance-based educational program (online module and CD) was designed to introduce basic and advanced-level concepts of national incident management systems (NIMS) for public health professionals.  This program describes the public health role within a coordinated/collaborative multi-agency crisis response.

Introduction to Emergency Preparedness for All Nurses Online Course and CD
Acute Care Nurses, Public Health Nurses, School Nurses, Ambulatory Nurses, Long-term Care Nurses, Occupational Health Nurses and Student Nurses can use this educational module to increase their knowledge about preparing for and responding to an emergency.   This module is intended to act as a reference and learning tool. HIV Prevention Counseling Pre-Req Online Course:
This HIV Prevention Counseling Course Prerequisite is required for all Missouri state employees who provide HIV Prevention Counseling.  This course must be completed prior to attendance of the face-to-face counseling trainings.  This online course includes three modules.   The modules provide an overview of STDs, HIV and Hepatitis.   Correlating images and definitions are included in the modules.  This course should ensure that everyone attending the face-to-face trainings will have a basic knowledge of these diseases. Dietetic Interns: Joint Commission Update – Ensuring Survey Success Online Course:
This online module was created in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services for their Dietetic Student Education program.  While some of the information is specific to Missouri's dietetic internship program, much of the content would be applicable to similar programs around the country.  This course is free and open to the public.

Dietetic Interns: Getting Organized for Clinical Rotations Online Course:

Model Tuberculosis Prevention Program for College Campuses
Avoiding a tuberculosis outbreak should be a priority for higher education administrators. The goal of this course is to help you do exactly that. It explains the basics about tuberculosis, who is most at risk and what screening and testing policies you can put in place to lower the chances of tuberculosis making an appearance on your campus. The Model Tuberculosis Prevention Program for College Campuses is a how-to manual that can be used by those on your campus who will be responsible for the practical development and implementation of a tuberculosis screening and testing policy. The manual is designed as a reference document and includes many helpful resources that can provide detailed information on different tuberculosis-related topics. (CD)

Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Symposium Online Course
The percentage of older housing and the percentage of children suffering from lead poisoning in the St. Louis area is three times the state average and nine times the national average. Although state regulations require that all children who are less than six years old and living in high risk areas receive an annual blood lead test, less than 40% of the children living in St. Louis receive these tests in a given year. Environmental Public Health Sanitation Workers Online Course
This is an introductory course for Sanitation Workers in the Bureau of Environmental Regulations & Licensure at the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services. While some of the information is specific to Missouri, much of the content would be applicable to similar programs around the country.  This course is free and open to the public. Mass Shelter CD-ROM
The information presented in this course is designed to improve understanding of recommended elements to facilitate the establishment of mass sheltering. In this course, you will look at the resources and agencies utilized in the creation of the Show-Me-Care Shelter designed to accommodate 2,000 temporarily housed evacuees following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. This course will guide you through the different elements used for consideration regarding shelter setup and management. (Online and CD)

Emerging Leaders Institute

The Emerging Leaders Institute is sponsored by the UIC-SPH Center for Public Health Practice and the Heartland Centers at St. Louis University, School of Public Health. The Institute is part of a continuum of training programs that strengthen the public health workforce through coordinated training and organizational development. The Emerging Leaders Institute builds public health practice by combining cutting edge face-to-face training with individual infrastructure improvement projects. As the conclusion of the program, Fellows will be prepared to assume leadership positions within their agencies, and will have the skills necessary to lead collaborative initiatives that characterize public health practice.
